How it works

Why the windows are never 90 minutes

A choghadiya is one eighth of the daylight period — so its length is the length of the day divided by eight, and it changes every single day of the year. In Delhi a day choghadiya runs about 102 minutes in late June and about 79 in late December. Any choghadiya table that gives you the same times all year is not computing anything.

The sequence is fixed by the weekday: the first window of the day belongs to that day's ruling planet, then the cycle runs Udveg → Char → Labh → Amrit → Kaal → Shubh → Rog and repeats. That is why Sunday opens with Udveg and Monday with Amrit. The night sequence follows its own traditional order over the same seven.

Because the whole thing hangs off sunrise, your city matters. We compute it from each city's own coordinates and timezone — never from a nearby one, and never from a stored clock time.
