How the nitya yoga is computed
Add the sidereal longitudes of the Sun and the Moon, then divide the result into twenty-seven equal parts of 13°20' each. The part the sum falls in is the nitya yoga. Because the sum advances by roughly 14° a day — the Moon's daily motion plus the Sun's — a yoga lasts a little under a day.
Ayushman occupies the span from 26.67° to 40.00° of that cycle. Like every anga, it can begin and end at any hour, which is why our panchang shows the transition time rather than a bare label.
Making use of it
Ayushman is counted among the favourable yogas. In practice a yoga is one factor of five — the tithi, nakshatra, karana and vaara all weigh in too, and a strong yoga does not rescue a Rikta tithi or a Vishti karana. Muhurat selection looks for agreement across the limbs rather than a single good sign.
